A Forex Trading platform is a piece of software that is generally provided by your broker. The software usually features facilities to make trades thorough a brokers system and options to mange your trading account.
Trading Platforms have been around since 1996. Forex brokers decided to develop their own trading platforms tailored to their own requirements. These Platforms were sufficient at the time but had massive development costs making the process very expensive.
In 2000 a second wave of trading platform emerged. Independent software companies saw a gap in the market and launched their own versions of Forex Trading platforms. Unfortunately these newer versions were generally slow and sluggish for both traders and brokers. This was down to the developers’ lack of understanding of the Forex Currency Market and the level of technology available at the time. For this reason Retail Forex brokers carried on developing their systems until newer more advanced trading platform could be created and take over.
Today, most first wave brokers have disappeared, merged or advanced to second wave Forex trading platforms.
Advanced Trading Platforms
It’s only in recent years that advanced Forex trading platforms have emerged. These new systems focus heavily on making areas such as the user interface accessible and easy to use. Along with these improvements Forex retail brokers have seen developments that given them more control and advanced reporting features.
The new Forex trading platforms are very successful, so much so even banks are offering individual traders these services, an example of a bank that does this is Citibank.
